Your mic doesn't have to just focus on vocals - you can also mic things like a melodica, trumpet, ocarina, harmonica, or a recorder for example. And the effect is still pretty cool.

I might be able to just put this guy right up to my mic, and I've activated my beat repeater. I can play around with it and add all sorts of effects.
Remember, anything percussion-related can open doors to interesting sounds. You can really do some intriguing things simply by playing around with your effects on top of those sounds.
