Lesson transcript:
Drum Lesson: Developing Your Skills
Now that you've worked your way through the lessons and developed some really nice basic drum grooves and fills, you're ready to work on your full pieces.
Playing with Friends
If you have any friends who are working on the Rock School Guitar method or the Rock School Bass method, they'll be learning the same pieces.
- Group Playing: If you have an opportunity to get together and try playing these pieces in a little group, or you can play along with the backing tracks with your friends, it's really exciting.
- Goal: Ultimately, this is what we're trying to lead towards: being able to play in a band.
Experimentation and Mistakes
Cultivating your own ideas and experimenting with different grooves and fills is essential.
- Don’t Worry About Mistakes: Don’t worry if they don’t work. We all need to make mistakes in order to get better.
- Exciting Development: I think that would be a really exciting way to develop this even further.
Working with Backing Tracks
If you don't have friends playing those instruments, these backing tracks are a lot of fun to work with.
- Explore Options: You can stick to the parts as written, or you can try developing some of your own ideas with it.
- Focus on Development: It's all exciting, it's all development, and let’s run the pieces!
