Music Lesson Exercise: Quarter Note Rests
In this exercise, we have quarter note rests on beat four in bars two and three. However, in bars one and four, we play all the quarter notes.
Play Options
- You're welcome to use whichever sticking you want to vary it a little bit.
- To give you an example, I'm going to try thinking of a random sticking for myself:
- Bars 1 and 3: All with the right hand
- Bars 2 and 4: All with the left hand
You don't have to do this; I'm just giving it to you as an option.
Sticking Techniques
- You can stick with the sticking we discussed:
- Start with the right and do single strokes.
- Don’t be afraid to mix it up! You could try some doubles as well:
- For example, in the first bar, you’d play: right, right, left, left.
Summary
Just so you know what I’ll be playing:
- Bars 1 and 3: All right hand
- Bars 2 and 4: All left hand
