About this course

Madeleine Bloom knows Ableton Live inside out. She spent years on Ableton's own technical support team before building Sonic Bloom into one of the best-known Live tutorial sites. As a musician and producer she has worked with Guy Sigsworth and Rupert Hine, and Imogen Heap invited her to open shows on her tour.

This course takes you from a blank session to a finished track. You'll set up Live, find your way around the interface, work with audio and MIDI clips, record and edit, use Live's built-in devices and effects, then structure and export a complete piece.

The course is split into:

  • Setting up Ableton Live
  • Navigating Live
  • Working with clips
  • Working with audio and MIDI
  • Editing and recording
  • Using devices
  • Adding effects
  • Track structure and exporting

By the end you'll have built one track from first idea to final file, and the workflow to keep going on your own.

Who it's for

  • Total beginners opening Ableton Live for the first time
  • Self-taught producers filling gaps in the fundamentals
  • Songwriters ready to finish tracks instead of starting them

What you'll learn

  • Build a track from first idea to export

What you'll need

  • A copy of Ableton Live 9 installed
  • Headphones or speakers, and optionally a MIDI controller
  • A few minutes most days at your computer

Madeleine Bloom

Madeleine Bloom is a classically trained musician, producer, multi-instrumentalist and singer from Berlin, and founder of the label Quixotica Records. She studied electroacoustic music at the Franz Liszt Conservatory under Prof. Robin Minard, and brings those methods to her own blend of electronica pop. Her music has earned praise from producers Guy Sigsworth and Rupert Hine, and a personal invitation from Imogen Heap, whose tour she opened.

A former Ableton technical support agent, she founded the online platform Sonic Bloom in 2012, where she teaches Ableton Live and music production through courses, workshops and one-to-one classes. She has helped people around the world with Ableton Live, Push and Max for Live, as well as audio engineering, music theory, composition and sound design.
