Chewing and Humming Exercise
In this exercise, what we're going to do is chew and hum at the same time. This is going to help create independent processes of the vocal cords and the jaw muscles.
Benefits of the Exercise
- Relaxation: It helps to relax the jaw muscles so that they don't feel too tense.
- Deeper Relaxation: As we're going through this, you may find a deeper sense of relaxation in this exercise than you normally would in a regular hum.
Instructions
Let's begin again. With this exercise, we're not worried about being on pitch.
Your main focus is release.

Adam Mishan is a vocal coach who taught himself to sing. His videos document the journey from not being able to hold a pitch to singing with real control, and that path now shapes how he teaches - over 200,000 people follow along on YouTube. In his courses you'll work on pitch, breath support, tone and range in small, repeatable steps, the same way he built his own voice.
