Lesson transcript:

Section Three: Performance Choices

Now, when we come to the third section, which in this case is an exact repeat of the first, the performer has a choice.

Dynamics per Tchaikovsky

  • Tchaikovsky wants us to do piano the same as the beginning.
  • Then, in measure 39, when we're going into the coda or conclusion, he wants a double piano.

It's really up to you, but I would follow the composer's orders.

Conclusion Suggestions

The only suggestion I would like to make for the conclusion is that you could divide it into two parts:

  • Part 1: From measure 39 for four measures
  • Part 2: The real coda, the last four measures.

I want to make sure that when you start your double piano, you know that you have a triple piano coming.

Important Considerations

  • Make sure it's soft but not too soft, as you'll be much softer at the end.
  • Then we repeat.

Tchaikovsky's Musical Palette

I would say the composer's colors, his musical palette here, is between:

  • Matte Piano
  • Pianissimo
  • Triple Piano
  • Mezzo Forte

It's very important to bear in mind when practicing that.

Julia Zilberquit
