Exploring the Tune's Structure
So, what other stuff is happening in this tune?
Right Hand Technique
The right hand is very much based on that voicing, starting on the fifth. This is a very Afro-Cuban thing or, more specifically, a Cuban thing. You can hear it in a classic Cuban son montuno style, which features:
- Tombow bass line (a quintessential element)
- A sense of groove that we'll explore further.
You can almost transition into that kind of feel, which I hinted at in the version I played for you guys.
Natural Transitions
Shifting between these kinds of feels feels natural.
- We're using the same voicing but applying it on the four chord.
- There's a lot of this kind of movement.
Essentially, it all outlines the main harmony, moving down the arpeggio of the major chord.
