Exploring a Classic Idea in Music
Let's look at one other little idea we can use on this tune. This is a kind of old idea that came through ragtime and became incorporated into various styles. It's often used as maybe an introduction to a song. But here it is being used over this chord sequence.
Basic Rhythm
So, let's break it down:
1, 2, 3, 4.
So, yeah, just a nice little idea:
3, 4, 1.
Playing Techniques
- Playing without accompaniment: If you're playing solo, consider the idea in octaves.
- Playing with a band: If the band has some of the rhythm covered, you could incorporate the octaves into your playing.
I'll tell you what, we'll look at that little technique when we discuss Professor Longhair's stuff. Suffice to say, it's very simply all in octaves played like that.
