Authorizing Ableton Live
Before we can properly start working with Ableton Live, we first need to authorize it. Without authorization, saving and exporting functions are disabled, which we need to use effectively.
Authorizing Online
- Connect to the Internet on the computer where Live is installed.
- Click the Authorize with ableton.com button.
- This will open ableton.com.
- If you're already logged in, you'll see the authorization window instantly.
- If not, you'll need to log into your user account first, then click on Authorize.
- Click on Launch Application. This will send the request back to Live, completing the authorization process.
Authorizing Offline
You can also authorize Live when you're not connected to the Internet. Here's how:
- Click on the No Internet on this computer option.
- All necessary steps are explained on the site, but I'll guide you through it.
- Click the Save button.
- It's best to save it to a flash drive or something portable.
- I'll show you how to do everything on this computer, so I'll just save it here.
- You should now see a text file and the hardware code.
Next Steps
- Go to ableton.com and access your User Account.
- If you're not logged in yet, do so here.
- Scroll down and click on Authorize Offline.
- Copy the Hardware Code and paste it in.
- Unfortunately, this needs to be done bit by bit.
- Click on Download.
- The authorization file will be saved.
- Finally, double-click this file, and it's authorized.
Information on the Trial Version
For those working with the trial version during this course:
- A dialogue will appear each time you start Live.
- The trial version is fully functional and valid for 30 days. However, it needs to be authorized each time Live is started.
- This authorization must be done via the Internet, as offline authorization is not available.
- A user account is necessary, and it's best to stay logged in.
- Simply click on the Authorize button in the dialogue when Live starts, and you're all set!
With these steps, you should now be able to authorize Ableton Live successfully!
