Rencontre avec Rob Luft

Introduction

Hi there! My name's Rob Luft. I'm a guitar player from London, specializing in jazz music and its related genres, such as:

• World music
• High life from Africa
• Samba from Brazil
• Eastern European folk

I am working on playing all different styles from across the globe.

My Background

The reason I'm here is that I am the jazz tutor for this course. I'm also going to be showing you a little about Scar, samba, bossa nova, and more.

I've been a professional jazz musician on the London scene for nearly ten years, having played with notable artists such as:

• Django Bates
• Gregory Porter
• Kerys Matthews

I grew up playing in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Great Britain. After that, I studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Baker Street.

Upon graduating with several awards, I went on to win second prize in the Montreux Jazz Festival's Jazz Guitar Competition in 2016. Since then, I have enjoyed performances around the world, playing across six continents, including tours in:

• South America (Argentina, Brazil, Chile)
• Europe

I've performed my own original music to fantastic sellout audiences all over the continent. I'm lucky enough to be signed to Edition Records, Britain's flagship independent jazz label, where I have one album released under my name and am working on a second.

Course Objectives

Anyway, the reason for this introduction is to outline my role in this course. I will be playing the jazz pieces and helping you develop your skills as a professional guitarist.

Highlights of the Course

Some key aspects of the course include:

• Exploring Various Jazz Styles: We will look at the different styles that fall under the jazz umbrella, such as jazz fusion.

  • Advanced picking techniques
  • Alternate picking
  • Right-hand techniques
  • Interesting exotic scales

• Samba and Bossa Nova: We will work on our fingerstyle technique within these genres.

There's a whole range of skills and knowledge we will cover, and I encourage you to enjoy yourself and really immerse in the material.
