Expanding Our Scale
Maybe we'll learn just a couple more notes of the scale.
Current Notes
So far, we have these notes:
- We don't have anything on the fourth string.
- Some songs will just use that note.
Notes on the Fourth String
As far as the scale goes, there are a couple of notes:
- Second fret
- Fourth fret
The fourth string, actually, lets you get two notes before having to go to the third string.
Additional Information
Just for your information, you should know that you can get the fourth fret on the first string, too, before arriving at the fifth string or the fifth fret.

Avram Siegel is a banjo player and a mainstay of the California bluegrass scene. He has played with the Kathy Kallick Band and True Blue, among many others, and has taught for decades - his step-by-step method has turned out some of the state's most respected young players. In his courses he breaks down three-finger Scruggs rolls, backup and melodic playing so you can build clean timing and tone at your own pace.
