Learning Cripple Creek with Techniques

So we're going to learn playing a song with sliding, galloping, and hammering. We'll focus on Cripple Creek incorporating all these techniques.

Introduction to Techniques

  1. Sliding

    • You'll need to practice this technique throughout the whole song.
  2. Hammering

    • For the hammer on, you only need to do one at a time.

Demonstration

Cripple Creek sounds like this:

  • I'm going to play it up tempo first, and then we'll slow it back down.

Slower Version

Now let's do it slower.

  • It's very similar to the melody but without the full rolls in it.
  • Now we've added the rest of the rolls.

Practicing Rhythm

Let's just try playing a nice simple rhythm to Cripple Creek.

  • You can also use the slide with other rolls, of course.

Combining Techniques

Let's try it with the Round the World roll.

  • I also added another note into that.
  • We slid again as we hit the second note of the roll.

Note:

  • Make sure you're not stopping.
  • This is a tricky thing to learn. It sounds easier than it is at first.

After you practice it, though, it'll be just like second nature.
