Building Vocal Muscle Memory
Now with the following exercises, there's no magic. Everything we're going to be doing is about building muscle memory and establishing proper vocal habits. This process takes time, work, patience, and effort.
Similar to Bodybuilding
- If you wanted to bodybuild and achieve a perfect physique, you wouldn't expect instant results.
- The same applies to our voice.
We can't expect instant results; we have to go slow and build those proper habits and that muscle memory.
Foundations for Singing
That's really what we're going to be doing here:
- Laying the foundations for vocal building
- Developing muscle memory
So that when it comes time to sing a song, you'll be able to do it with a much more efficient way of phonating and singing. Things will become much easier over time.
"Again, this is something that takes time; it's not something that's going to happen overnight."
Daily Practice Recommendations
What I want you to add to your regimen is:
- Half an hour of these exercises daily.
Practice Tips
- If you need to go through the exercises twice to build up to the half hour, that's fine.
- Focus on working through all these exercises without glossing over any mistakes.
Example:
- If you're doing a lip roll and get that crackling sound, don't just gloss over it.
- Stay with it and keep working that same scale.
"Now, it didn't break on the way up, but it broke on the way down. Slowly, slowly, the sound will start to even out."
Commit to Consistency
I want you to dedicate:
- Half an hour, six days a week.
Really work at this. Do it for:
- The next month, two months, three months, four months, even six months.
You're going to see massive improvements the more time you put into it.
This is, again, all about building the right habits and developing the right muscle memory.

Adam Mishan is a vocal coach who taught himself to sing. His videos document the journey from not being able to hold a pitch to singing with real control, and that path now shapes how he teaches - over 200,000 people follow along on YouTube. In his courses you'll work on pitch, breath support, tone and range in small, repeatable steps, the same way he built his own voice.
