Introduction

Hey there, everybody! How are you today? Great to see you!

My name is Andrew James Johnson. I'm a composer and pianist from the UK. We're sitting in a great studio here in the heart of London, featuring a beautiful Steinway piano. I'm going to be recording some fantastic tracks for you, helping you understand how to play your pieces better.

About Me

A little bit about me:

  • I'm a professional pianist and have been for about 25 years.
  • I've played all over the world and had the opportunity to perform with orchestras and bands.
  • I've served as a music director, worked for Disney, and collaborated with some of the biggest cruise ships and entertainment companies in the world.
  • Currently, I'm focusing on composing and working on my own album.

I've released a few albums over the years and I'm truly enjoying my life as a musician, making and playing music with these fingers of mine!

Your Piano Journey

It's really great that you've chosen to learn the piano, that's absolutely fantastic news!

Whether you're a beginner or an advanced Grade 8 student tackling some of the hardcore stuff, you're in the right place.

I have played everything from:

  • Concertos and sonatas by composers like Beethoven, Bach, and Chopin
  • Works by Rachmaninoff, down to
  • Pieces like Bruce Hornsby's "The Way It Is"
  • David Bowie's "Life on Mars"
  • Songs by Coldplay and Elton John

You name it, we've got it all!

What to Expect

I look forward to diving deep into the music. We may explore some details that you might not have encountered in your lessons or perhaps you've been learning purely from a visual point of view. That's even better, as you can take these lessons away and really maximize your learning experience.

As your instructor, I'm here to help you understand the finer points of making music. This includes:

  • Not just technical skills, like scales and arpeggios
  • The musical side, how to express yourself
  • Bringing a sense of professionalism into your playing

Music is so much more than just the black dots on the page. As you learn and improve, you'll start to realize that it's all about bringing the music to life.

The real difference between a pro player and an amateur player is the ability to communicate the message of the music, to the audience or even just to yourself.

Conclusion

That's what we're here to do, and I can't wait to get started! We'll be diving into some fun courses and pieces together.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Cheers!
