Left Hand Notes Lesson
Let's talk about the notes you play with the left hand.
Learning the Short Scale
The first thing we'll learn is just a short scale on the third string. Here's how it goes:
- Play the third string open - this is a G.
- Play the third string at the second fret - this is an A.
Next, we'll move to the second string:
- Play the second string open.
- Play the second string at the first fret.
Finger Placement
- For the second fret on the third string, use your middle finger.
- For the first fret on the second string, use your index finger.
- On the first string, play it open and at the second fret.
Now we have a little scale!
Coordination Tips
If you can, try to place your left hand at the same time as you pluck the note with your right hand.
Initial Challenges
- At first, you may find that you need to place your finger to get it ready and then pluck the string.
Goal
But eventually, you're going to want to play them both together. The tone ends up being better that way.
