Assignment Overview
Your assignment for this lesson, as it was for Giovannutti, is as follows:
Step 1: Explore Stefan Grappelli's Recordings
- Go out and gather a variety of recordings of Stefan Grappelli, preferably from different periods of his career.
- Note: His playing evolved significantly over the years.
Step 2: Recognize and Learn Riffs
- Listen for and try to recognize some of the riffs that I've shown you.
- Aim to learn a few of your own riffs.
Step 3: Practice with Backing Tracks
- Practice these riffs over the backing for Swing Parisienne.
Step 4: Discover Standard Tunes
- Look for as many tunes that are standards from the hot club style, including:
- Lady Be Good
- Sweet Georgia Brown
- Autumn Leaves
Once you've gathered and practiced these tunes, you'll be able to play them with other musicians!
About the instructor
Chris Haigh es violinista profesional desde hace 25 años, con experiencia en muchos géneros distintos. Ha tocado en más de 75 álbumes, trabajando con artistas como Alison Moyet, Bob Geldof, All About Eve, Michael Ball, David Soul, Oumou Sangare, The Quireboys, Riverdance, Morcheeba, James Galway y Steps. Ha tocado swing y jazz con The Kimbara Brothers, Diz Disley, Le Jazz, The Hot Club of London y los Quecumbar Allstars, y lidera una banda de swing soviético de siete integrantes, The Kremlinaires.
