Running Quavers Technique
When I'm playing the running quavers, like in the final phrase, I'm using the airstream constantly.
Constant Airstream
- I keep a constant airstream to keep things going.
Importance of Vowel Technique
And in order to play this swingy, with good time feel and with a good sound, it's very important that we use a good vowel technique.
Good Valve Technique
- Good valve technique involves pressing the valves down quickly.
- The valves need to be:
- Pressed quickly
- Released quickly
Otherwise, we get what's called a half valve, which sounds like this:
"Now, that's not a very nice sound."
It's an effect we can use now and again, but it's not a sound we want to get between the notes.
Conclusion
We need to release and press the valves quickly so that the line of quavers runs smoothly.
