Lesson transcript:

Understanding the A Minor Scale

Let's have a look now at the A minor scale. Luckily, it's got the exact same fingers and the exact same notes. The only difference is that we'll start and end on A.

Practicing the A Minor Scale

  • Both Hands: Let's practice with both hands.
  • Scale Type: Note that this specific type of minor scale is called the natural minor scale.
  • Other Types: There are other types of minor scales as well that you might come across later on in your musical journey.

Importance of Scales

Scales are a really important part of developing your technique. I'd recommend starting your practice with scales every time that you sit down at the piano.

Benefits of Practicing Scales

  • Key Signatures: Scales are helpful for us to get our head around key signatures.
  • Improvisation: They are also beneficial for improvising and jamming with other musicians and on our own.
