Music Lesson: Handling the Trombone
As you can see, I'm using the peabone, and luckily for me, these are very difficult to damage.
However, on a regular brass trombone, there are a couple of danger zones I'd like to mention:

Connecting the Slide and Bell:
- When we put the slide and the bell together, you can see how close the bell is to the slide.
- On a brass trombone, that area can easily get dented, so be very careful when you put the bell on the slide.

Inserting the Mouthpiece:
- When we put the mouthpiece in the instrument, we never knock it or bash it.
- It goes in the hole with a small twist, and we're done.
About the instructor
Liam Kirkman is a trombonist who trained at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Over more than 20 years as a player he has worked across an unusually wide range of music, from Radiohead, Michael Bublé, Lady Gaga and the John Wilson Orchestra to English National Ballet, and he has played on numerous film scores and TV soundtracks. A past President of the British Trombone Society, he has taught students at the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music and Trinity Laban, as well as young players taking their first steps on brass.
