Trombone Assembly Lesson
Hi, I'm Liam. Welcome to skill number one.
Putting the Trombone Together Safely
Today, we're going to learn how to put the trombone together safely.

Start with the Case
- Gently place the case on the floor.
- As we open the case, we'll find the parts of the trombone.

Identifying the Parts
- This is the belt, but that's safely set to one side.
- Next out is the slide.

Handling the Slide
- When we take the slide out of the case, make sure the slide lock is on, and the two parts of the slide stay together.
- As we hold the slide in our left hand, we take the bell in our other hand and put the two together.

Connecting the Slide and Bell
- We can see here on the P bone, on the slide, there's a small cut-out, and the bell twists in just like that.

Finishing Up with the Mouthpiece
- Next out is the mouthpiece.
- The mouthpiece gently goes in here with a small twist.

About the instructor
Liam Kirkman is a trombonist who trained at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Over more than 20 years as a player he has worked across an unusually wide range of music, from Radiohead, Michael Bublé, Lady Gaga and the John Wilson Orchestra to English National Ballet, and he has played on numerous film scores and TV soundtracks. A past President of the British Trombone Society, he has taught students at the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music and Trinity Laban, as well as young players taking their first steps on brass. He believes in staying versatile and keeping an open mind to every kind of music making - the approach he says keeps playing both challenging and rewarding. read more
