Left Hand Technique: The Pull Off
Now we're going to learn another left hand technique: the pull off.
What is a Pull Off?
- It is in the opposite direction of a slide.
- It goes from a higher fret, for instance, the third fret.
- You actually pluck the string with your left hand.
How to Execute a Pull Off
- Start with your middle finger on the third fret.
- Pull off to your index finger on the second fret.
- You can also do this to an open string, and that works as well.
Introducing the Tag Roll
Next, we're going to learn a different roll used as a tag. A tag is something you put on the end of a song.
Reversing Roll Technique
- This has a reversing roll that goes from forward to backward without a fifth string in between.
- In our other reverse roll, there was a fifth string before the roll turned around.
- This one goes forward and backward without the fifth string in between.
Practice the Roll
The roll goes like this:
- You can practice playing this roll just leading right into itself.
- Tag licks are often like that because they start and end on the same note.
This is a little something to learn, and we use that in songs.
