Final Style: Hip Hop
We've made it to the final style, Hip Hop. This isn't really a style of music you'd associate with guitar playing, but there are definitely some examples of it.
Key Elements of Hip Hop
- The main hooks are made of samples and loops.
- For example, take the song Lose Yourself by Eminem‚ the main riff has that guitar part that just goes over and over again throughout the song.
Live Music in Hip Hop
The guitar and live music truly come into play in hip hop through live arrangements. You can see this at big performances such as the Grammys or festivals, with artists like:
- Stormzy
- Kendrick Lamar
- Little Simz
These artists use real musicians to perform their music.
In early hip hop, this wasn't as common, but certainly in the last 10 to 20 years, artists like Dizzee Rascal have embraced this trend. They incorporate session musicians like Guthrie Govan in their bands, and this has become a huge trend at festivals around the world.
