Lesson Eight: The Final Lesson

Welcome back, everybody!

This is lesson eight, the final lesson in the course.

Overview

This is our chance to:

  • Play the Head to Sugar in fifth position minor.
  • Perform the solo that I've tabbed out for you.

I hope that by doing this solo, you'll grasp where I'm trying to go melodically when I play.

Melodic Improvisation

As a melodic player and improviser, I aim to write little songs within the melody. Here's my approach:

  • Connect Points:
    • Point A to Point B
    • Point B to Point C
    • Point C to Point D
    • Back to where I started.

It's kind of cool in that respect!

Practice Recommendations

Give it a shot and do your best. The beauty of this is that you can practice as much as you need to.

I hope you'll develop your own ideas as time moves on.

Here we go , this is Sugar, and let's see what happens!

Your Solo

So, there you go, guys! You have plenty to practice.

That solo will be a bit of a challenge for you, but hopefully, if you:

  • Go back and review all the lessons,
  • Think about correct posture,
  • Focus on relaxing,
  • Ensure a good mouth seal,
  • Practice some of those exercises we've covered,

Then just be creative, it should all fall into place for you.

Thanks a lot!

PT Gazell

PT Gazell has earned his position as a master of the diatonic harmonica. After years as the sought-after side man and session player for some of Nashville's greatest, PT discovered half-valving and his music literally soared to new heights.

No other player combines his phrasing, melodic style, song choices and improvisational abilities the way he does - in the end, it is a style all his own. Using his own signature instrument, the Gazell Method diatonic manufactured by Seydel, PT proves that the harmonica is capable of far more than most of us believe.

Dig it!

In his courses, PT teaches half-valving straight from the source - so you can get started with the Gazell Method, master valved bends, and bring them into your own songs.
