In this lesson, we'll explore a technique that involves leaving our finger on a fret on a different string than the one we're currently playing.

Understanding the Technique

• Bar Two:
  • We're using the open E string and the third fret on the B string (the D note).
  • We'll be alternating between the two notes.

Key Points:

• Finger Position:

  • Keep your finger on the D string while slightly lifting it to stop the sound, but there's no need to completely release your hand from the fretboard.

• Playing Sequence:

  • Play the E, then the D.
  • Lift up slightly to stop the D note, then play the E again, followed by the D.

• Pressure Control:

  • Focus on the pressure of lifting your finger up and pushing it back down.
  • This technique helps improve speed.

Important Tips:

• Clarity:

  • If you don't lift your finger, the notes will blur together and sound muddy.
  • It's essential to lift your finger so the E string rings out clearly underneath.

• Finger Positioning:

  • Be sure to use your fingertip. If you're pressing down too low, you'll block the E string, which will inhibit clarity.
