Lesson transcript:

Creating an Arrangement Live Set

In this video, we're going to be looking at creating an Arrangement Live Set.

Overview

Now, in this Ableton Live set, you're going to be able to download it and play around with this activity that I've put together. This is really going to help you test your skills around arrangement and editing.

What We'll Cover

  • Review what this Live Set is all about
  • Look at a specific example: creating a beat with samples in Live's Arrangement

Exercise Details

You can easily edit your clips and make new arrangements. In this exercise, we will:

  • Take a few samples
  • Delete, modify, copy, and change the arrangement in Arrangement View

Steps to Follow:

  1. Open the Example: Open up the example titled "Creating an Arrangement Live Set."
  2. Create a New Arrangement: Use the samples found within the set.
  3. Help View Instructions: If you don't see the Help view, go to View > Help View in your browser, and you'll be able to find the Help view in Ableton.

Using the Help View

  • The Help view contains different resources for this activity.
  • If it doesn't show up, remember: View > Help View will bring it back on the side.

Activity Instructions

For this activity, you will:

  • Play the arrangement
  • Create a new arrangement by editing and splicing parts
  • Duplicate sections as needed

Note: I really want you to only use the samples found within this Live set. This limitation will allow you to explore creative possibilities as opposed to having every option available.

Extra Credit

If you want to go the extra mile:

  • Add effects and automations into your arrangement.

Final Thoughts

  • Download this set and try it out. It will help you understand the different parts of how to change volume, splice, delete, and more.
  • If you have any questions, make sure to review the other videos in this module, which cover all the ins and outs of Arrangement View.

Conclusion

Once you've completed this project and possibly added some extra credit, you'll have a strong grasp of Arrangement View. You'll feel confident moving forward, knowing that this part of the program is locked down.
