Lesson transcript:

Group C: Chord Voicings

In this lesson, we will explore various types of chord voicings against the three types of seventh chords, similar to the arpeggios. However, we will be strumming them as chords.

B Major 7

  • First shape: B major 7

  • Voice: We might have to fingerpick these, as they've been voiced in the book.

    Count: 1, 2, 3, 4

  • Note: Really nice chord!

  • Alternative Voicing:

    • If we wanted to play it on the A string, we'd have this voicing here.

C Minor 7

  • Next, let's have a look at the minor seven voicing.

  • Position: Third fret

  • Shape: C minor 7

  • Alternative Voicing:

    • If we want that same chord with the root notes on the E string, we'll move up to the 8th fret and bar all the way across, asking a lot of our first finger.

D Dominant 7

  • Finally, we have the dominant seventh chord.

  • Chord: D dominant 7 on the A string

  • Shape Count: 1, 2, 3, 4

  • Alternative Voicing:

    • If we wanted that with the root note on the E string, we'll be up on the 10th fret playing the E shape here.

Let's practice these voicings!
