Practicing with a Metronome
I think one thing that is good is to practice with a metronome and just feel comfortable with that pulse.
- Timing and Groove
It's not about being perfectly in time, but it's about being able to push and pull a little bit. Like just on the edge of pulling back gives it that kind of slightly more pocket. If you're too kind of polite with it, it hasn't got the same groove. So, it's about giving it a bit of swag, just pulling it back and pushing it.
Guitar Techniques
In terms of where you play on a guitar:
- When playing on an acoustic guitar, it can sound a bit more like a piano because the strings are thicker.
- If you play near the bridge, you get a lot more of that percussive sound of the guitar. It tends to be more staccato, which can really work for this sort of riff.
- Playing up the neck tends to produce a bit more of an elastic sound.
Sound Variation
It's all up to you where you play, but:

Playing closer to the bridge provides a much more nasally sound.

Depending on how I feel and the style of the song, I'll alter where I play.

For example:
- Warm sound: Playing up over the neck gives you a much more woody, mellow sound, almost like John Lee Hooker.
- Funky sound: Playing near the bridge yields a nastier, funkier sound.
So even within playing around the 12 bars, you can kind of experiment with different positions to get the desired tone.
About the instructor
Scott McKeon hat sein ganzes Leben seinem Handwerk als Gitarrist gewidmet. Das an Blues, Rock 'n' Roll und Gospel orientierte Programm erlaubt es Scott, auf seine frühen Einflüsse zurückzugreifen und um die Welt zu reisen. Zu den bisherigen Auftritten zählen fünf Europatourneen, drei Tourneen durch die USA und Südamerika sowie Tourneen durch Australien und den Fernen Osten, dazu Fernsehauftritte wie Later... with Jools Holland und TFI Friday sowie ein Auftritt beim New Orleans Jazz Festival 2019. Scotts drittes Album, 'New Morning', ist eine erdige, rohe, gitarrengeführte Platte, die seine Bandbreite und sein Können als Gitarrist zeigt. Das Album wurde live im Studio von RAK in London aufgenommen und fängt die Energie und Spontaneität der Sessions ein. Produziert wurde es von Paul Stacey (Black Crowes/Oasis), und mit dabei sind Jeremy Stacey (Sheryl Crow/Tal Wilkenfeld) am Schlagzeug, Rocco Palladino (Tom Misch/D'Angelo) am Bass und Gavin Conder (Rufus Black/The Kondoors) als Sänger auf mehreren Tracks. Scott hat außerdem ein Signature-Fuzz-Pedal und Signature-Pickups, die seiner '62er Strat nachempfunden sind.
