Combining Power Chords with Single Note Lines

In this section, we're combining power chords with single note lines.

Power Chord E5

• The first chord we're using is the E5 power chord, which we've seen before.
• Remember that although we're playing the second fret, we need to use our first finger, sliding everything up a fret.

Tips for Playing E5

• Sound: Focus on generating the right sound.
• Strumming: Play just the top two strings for this E5 chord.
  • Use a circular motion; don't drag through all the strings.
• Strumming Power: Keep your strumming soft.
  • All the power and distortion is coming from the amp.

Moving to Bar 2

• In bar 2, there is an "NC" above the bar, which means no chord.
• This indicates that the notes written are what we will play without chord accompaniment.

Notes in Bar 2

• Quarter Notes:
  • A G on the E string
  • An F sharp on the E string (from fret 3 to fret 2)
• Shift your fingers accordingly:
  • Use your middle finger on fret 3
  • Use your first finger on fret 2

Technique: Rolling the Finger

• Combine the technique of rolling your finger as discussed in previous sections.
• When you reach F sharp, roll your finger down to prepare for the chord.

Moving from Bar 2 to Bar 3

• After the rest, transition down to the next chord.
• The rest allows us two beats to move that finger down:
  • Power Chord Sequence:
    • Count: 2, 1, 2
    • Use middle finger, first finger, rest, and roll down.

Transition to Bar 4

• In bar 4, roll your first finger back up to the F sharp and go to an E.
• The rhythm is straightforward; we've tackled much harder challenges than this.
