Home Cooking Song: A Lesson in Blues

All right, now I'm gonna do that 12 bars for you. This song is called Home Cooking Song about a natural law.

The Natural Law

The natural law is this:

  • If you can't get home cooking in your own home,
  • You're gonna go to somebody else's home and get you some.

That don't make for a good relationship, but it makes for a good blues song.

The Sound

And it's gonna sound like this:

"Now, baby, I'm looking,
I'm gonna soon be booking.
Yes, I'm looking,
I'm soon be booking."

The Search

Find me a brand new little lady,
Give me some home cooking, baby.
You don't like the kitchen?
Just say something you like to do.
If you don't like the kitchen, that just ain't something you'd like to do.

I'm gonna find me a brand new piece of sugar,
And she gonna cook much better than you.
She gonna find me some chicken,
That little girl gonna fry me some chicken.
That little girl know how to bake my bread.

The Menu

They gonna be loving enough,
And I'm gonna eat until I'm fed.

  • She got that sweet potato pie,
  • She got a little ol' coffee too.
    Yes, sweet potato pie,
    Little coffee too.

You get you some down home cooking, son,
Sure cure a mess of your blues.

The Conclusion

You know how I'm looking, boys,
I'm gonna be booking.
Yes, I'm looking,
Ooh, I'm gonna be booking.

I'm gonna get a brand new piece of sugar,
Give me some down home cooking,
Down home cooking.
