Music Lesson

You know, if we could start the song again, we won't do it. We won't need to do it all because it's beautiful what you're doing already.

But if we can just start again and

  • just try and engage with that intro,
  • and just feel that heartbeat going.

Play around with the rhythm a little bit as well. Make it your own.

Okay, I'll sing it one last time for you.

Then we really have to go.

You've been the only thing that's right in all I've done.

The word barely...

I can barely look at you
Every single time I do.
Every single time I do...
It's gonna be okay.
I know we'll make it anywhere away from here.

See that light in the distance? See that hope?

Light up, light up
as if you have a choice.
Even when you cannot hear my voice,
I'll be right beside you.
Shout louder, shout louder.

Here. Bring it a bit louder, louder
and we'll run for our lives.
I can hardly speak.
I understand why you can't raise your voice to say...

Going to the second verse in the same place we've left off mentally.

Think I might, might not see those eyes.
Makes it so hard not to cry.
And as we say our long goodbye,
I nearly do.

Now this next bit really exaggerate the phrase.
Really pull it back, make it slow.

Light up, light up
as if you had, you have a choice.
Even if you cannot hear my voice,
I'll be right beside you, dear.
Big breath, big breath.

Louder, louder
and we'll run for our lives.
I can hardly speak.
I understand why you can't raise your voice to say...
Hold it, hold it, hold it.

Light up, light up
as if you have a choice.
Even if you cannot hear my...
Sing it from the heart.
I'll be right beside you.

Everybody's on the edge of their seat now, looking at you ready to applaud.

Fantastic. Fantastic.

That was beautiful. It's just... It's like painting a picture.

Yeah, it really is. It's so emotional when you get with the words, and you can connect with every emotion in the song that was written by the artist, you know, and then relate it to yourself.

And that was divine. That was absolutely beautiful.

You know when I told you to take a big breath just before the phrase "louder and louder"? You did so. Remember this:

Prepare yourself for the phrases. Prepare yourself for that moment.

Louder, louder. Your voice doubled in size when you took a breath. Yes.

You seriously had the breath control to be able to power out that sound. So do that every time you take a breath. Just...

And it doesn't mean that you have to then attack each phrase with a big sound. You can use that breath and control that breath and sing really quietly and loud, you know, and soft, and still have that intimacy.

But you've still got the breath inside you to then bang it out when you need to bang it out.

But seriously, when you took that breath, the song opened up.

Yeah, the "louder and louder" was just... You had this huge tonal quality.

You brought in the bottom end of the voice and the mid-range of the voice and it sounded amazing. Your voice just seemed to double then when you did that.

Well done. I really appreciate you doing this.

Thank you, Hannah. Thank you, Ross.

Remember all that. Take note of what Hannah did. She did an amazing job.

Try it at home. Practice all the exercises if you can.

Again, you'll have a wonderful backing track of this song as well to sing along to.

But enjoy it. Like I said, enjoy it.
