Breath Control in Your Song

The next section of the song that I'd like to work on is your breath control.

Holding Notes Through the Chorus

  • You did hold a lot of notes through the chorus, such as:
"Like a bridge over troubled water."
Take your breath at the start of that phrase. Really take your time to take a breath and see that line through.

  • When you get to "water," don't pull the voice back. Keep it on.
    "Turn the tap on."
The dynamic should still be there.

Dynamic Sustaining

Let's try:
"It's like a bridge over troubled water."
Even though it's low and you're going down, keep that dynamic there. Keep that power on.

Emotional Connection

Now, let's try the second person with the same emotional connection and approach:

  • "When you're down and out,
    When you're on the stream,
    When evening falls so hard,
    I will comfort you."

Big breath.
"I'll take your part."
"Oh, when darkness comes."

Key Expressions

Just stop you there for one minute. Those little phrases, like in "Oh, when darkness comes,"

  • "Oh" is a really important word.

    • It's not just "oh, when darkness comes."
    • It's an expression; you really feel it from the heart.

    "I will comfort you,
    I'll take your part."

    "Oh, when darkness comes."

It's a real powerful emotional moment, so don't just throw that away. That "Oh" is like a heart-wrenching expression. Remember those little details as well.

Putting It All Together

So, let's just go from:

  • "I will comfort you,
    I will take your part."
  • "I will comfort you,
    I'll take your path."
  • "Oh, when darkness comes
    And pain is all around."
  • "Like a bridge..."

Keep it going:
"Watch over troubled water."
Big breath.
"I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water."

Bring it down, bring it down.
"I will lay me down."

Final Thoughts

So nice, so nice, so nice.
I mean, that was beautiful. You really had all the dynamics, lots of nice little colors in there. You knew when to power it out and when to bring it back down.

You connected with the words, and the emotion was so nice.
Beautiful. Well done!
