Lesson transcript:
Music Lesson: "Being Here with You"
Overview
- Standard tuning
- Key: E
Opening Phrase
- "Now, I could have put the melody just over one string, but my whole approach is to pick through a chord and pick out the melody."
- Gets a little tricky in measure five:
- Move the fingers in the right place
- Transition to the third finger
- Play the fifth fret of the third string
- Repeat this section
Next Section
- At measure 16, it's tricky:
- "You just got to watch it."
Key Changes
- In measure 21:
- "You see how I'm moving the bar on the fourth eighth note of the bar?"
- Note: Moving the bar (B, A, R, R, E) on the fourth eighth note of the measure (different spelling/meaning but the same sound).
- All of this repeats pretty normally.
Changes in Tonality
- In measure 33, I'm changing key:
- Ending here in E tonality
- Making an A chord, the five of D minor (in measure 34) , but in fact, I mean A minor.
- Watch out in measure 37:
- Sliding back with the third finger
- Again, A augmented
Fingering Techniques
- "Here again, watch the fingering."
- Rather than spreading it out, do a little half bar.
- Modulating back to E and back to the top, everything is pretty straightforward.
Conclusion
- At the very end:
- It just pauses on those bars.
- "I put a little virtual whammy where I'm just modulating the top very slightly and breaking up the E chord."
Final Thoughts
- "I think that covers it for 'Being Here with You'."
About the instructor
