Adding a Roll to "Bilum Cabbage Down"

Let's try adding this roll into Bilum Cabbage Down.

Review of Previous Lessons

We've already played Bilum Cabbage Down with the forward and reverse rolls. Notice that we played the first note.

• The melody is on the second string.
• We played the fifth string on the first note when we played Bilum Cabbage Down with that roll.

A Little Trick on the Banjo

That's a little trick we use on the banjo:

• We play the melody on the second note.
• We fill in the first note in a different way, which makes the note stand out a little bit more.

New Technique with the Slide

In this case, instead of hitting the fifth string, we're going to hit the slide going up to that same note. Remember, this is the first note of Bilum Cabbage Down on the second string.
