Rock School Drums: Pro Perspective

Hi, I'm Paul Elliott, and this is Rock School Drums, the pro perspective on this course.

We've put together an amazing team of top professional drummers and educators. These are people who have:

  • Toured the world with major artists
  • Taught at the highest level

We'll be giving you:

  • Top practice tips
  • Stylistic advice

And we'll be guiding you through your Rock School grade.

Meet the Instructors

Pat Lovett

Hi there, my name is Pat Lovett. I'm going to help you learn the drums on this Rock School course.

I will be guiding you through various rock and blues tunes. I have a fair amount of experience playing this kind of music with various bands around the world, including:

  • The Ronnie Scott's Blues Explosion
  • Tom Jones
  • Zigaboom Odalis from the Meters (a very important band from New Orleans, where the drum kit was invented)

I've also learned from the legendary Bernard Purdey, who you might know. Both of these drummers are pivotal in the whole development of rock and blues drumming. They are definitely worth checking out if you haven't heard of them.

What I learned from them, I hope to pass on to you within these lessons.

Harry Pope

Hey, I'm Harry Pope. I'm going to be taking you through the jazz and hip hop pathways on Rock School Grades debut to eight, and I'm really, really excited about it!

I was chosen to lead the jazz and hip hop pathways because, as a professional drummer living in London, I play both jazz and hip hop at a very high level. I've toured the world playing these genres.

Check out my new album by World Service Project, titled Serve, which will be out in April. I'm thrilled about the whole thing!

In this course with me, you'll be learning about the idiosyncratic parts of jazz, hip hop, and funk music, including:

  • A lot of ghost notes
  • A lot of dynamics
  • Mobility around the kit

You will work on technique for both hands and feet, but most importantly, you'll gain those little bits of information that will make you sound authentic within these genres, whether it's jazz, hip hop, or the funky stuff, which is also really, really cool.

Please join me on this course! I've really enjoyed recording it, and whether you're going to sit your Rock School grades or you're just trying to improve as a player, I truly believe this will be one of the best ways for you to elevate your skills and sound authentic within these styles.
