Final Thoughts on Combining Concepts

And then finally, the last number, eight is a combination which I've already spoken of.

Overview of Concepts

Basically, that's just taking all the ideas we've talked about:

  • Root
  • Fifth
  • Octave
  • Scale down
  • Scale up
  • Chromaticism
  • Triads
  • Approaches
  • Inversions
  • Sequences

All combinations into the baseline.

Example

Example 5 is:
D minor, E minor, F minor, E minor.

In this situation, the chord is going up the scale and then back down the scale.

So, in a case like this, if I use a scale in thirds, I'm going to get the approaches above each root.

Check this out. Here we go. Okay. Okay.

Practice Suggestions

What I suggest is to practice examples 1 through 5 on this page that says:

  • Point A
  • Point B
  • Point C

And play each four-bar example multiple times. Just keep repeating them, trying all these different techniques, and let's see what happens with that.
