Welcome to Rockschool Drums Grade 5: The Pro Perspective

This innovative video course challenges you to be the best drummer and musician you can be, whatever your level.

MusicGurus and Rockschool have assembled a team of top pro drummers to provide unique lessons on each piece in the grade, as well as give in-depth analysis of all the rudimental requirements, and invaluable advice on sight reading, feel, developing authentic vocabularly, playing musicality, practicing effectively and building your technique.

If you're a student taking a grade this course is the ideal preparation. Here is some information on the drummers you'll learn from.

Paul Elliott
Paul is a highly respected drum educator and clinician. Paul's students get the top gigs in the industry such as Kylie Mingoue (Tom Meadows), Ricky Martin (Laura Fares), The Cure (Jason Cooper) and many more. At clinics he has performed alongside the likes of Steve Smith, Manu Katche, Simon Phillips and Gary Husband. And his own playing career featured stints with Frank Gamable, Guthrie Govan and Shaun Baxter.

Top drummers like Phil Selway (Radiohead) and Ash Soan (Adele) come to Paul for technical advice, and now you can learn from him too! Paul goes in-depth on the technical requirements for each grade, demonstrating and explaining each rudiment you're required to learn. He doesn't just describe how you should play, but why and what becoming a technical master allows you to do on the kit.

Rich Hawking
Richard Hawking has gained recognition on the alt-metal scene as the powerhouse drummer at the heart of Hacktivist, the genre-bending rap-metal band formed in Milton Keynes.
With Hacktivist, Richard has played regularly to crowds of tens of thousands at all the major festivals in Europe and beyond, including Glastonbury, Download and Somnisphere. The band has supported Korn and Enter Shikari, and recorded a live session for BBC Radio 1 at Maida Vale Studios.

Rich plays and teaches the metal tunes in your Rockschool grade, putting his experience on the front-line of the metal scene at your disposal.

Harry Pope
Harry Pope is a U.K based drummer with a burgeoning reputation as a live and session drummer, specialising in jazz and hip-hop. He is primarily known for his work with award-winning punk-jazz group World Service Project, with whom he has toured internationally, notably in a rave-reviewed tour of India in 2016/17. He holds a BA in Jazz drumming from Leeds College of Music, and went on to complete the prestigious Trinity College of Music’s jazz programme

Harry teaches the funk jazz and 'world' influenced pieces in your Rockschool grade, bringing his astounding technique as well as creative verve to your lessons.

Pat Levett
Pat is well known on the London rhythm and blues scene as a master of groove drumming. He has performed and recorded with Tom Jones, The James Taylor Quartet, Tim Minchin, The Ronnie Scotts All Stars, and many more. He's also an specialist in early blues and New Orleans style drumming, and has learnt directly from legendary drummers Zigaboo Modeliste (The Meters) and Bernard Purdie amongst others.

Pat teaches the Rock and Blues influenced piece in your Rockschool grade, bringing his deep well of experience to bear.

Andy G Jones has played with Van Morrison, Cliff Richard, James Ingram, Lamont Dozier, Queen (Brian May and Roger Taylor), Dean Bradfield (Manic Street Preachers), The BBC Radio Big Band, Patti Austin, Hamish Stuart (Average White Band), Lalo Schifrin (Hollywood film composer Bullitt, Mission Impossible), Hank Marvin, Grady Tate, Agnetha from ABBA, Dudley Moore, Sarah Brightman, Petula Clark, Madelaine Bell, Smooth Jazz star Richard Smith, Chris Standring, Jerry Lewis (The Nutty Professor, King of Comedy), Katherine Jenkins and Darcey Bussell, Laurie Holloway and has toured with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Since leaving Van Morrison, Andy has been in Cliff Richard’s band and played at the Queen’s Jubilee Concert which also featured Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Paul McCartney. He has just returned from Australia where he played on a live Cliff Richard DVD at the Sydney Opera House.

Carl Orr has performed and recorded with some of the finest musicians on the planet including Billy Cobham, George Duke, Ernie Watts, Randy Brecker, Gary Husband and Bennie Maupin. He is a regular at London’s legendary Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in his own band and as a member of drummer Mark Fletcher's supergroup "Fletch's Brew”. Carl has taught guitar at The Australian Institute of Music, Brunel University, Middlesex University, London Centre Of Contemporary Music and The Academy of Contemporary Music. A prolific composer,Carl has recorded eight albums as a leader and is featured on albums by Billy Cobham, Fletch's Brew, Geoff Eales and Nathan Haines.
