Músico autodidacta, Andrew creció escuchando reggae, la radio pop británica, música clásica, jazz funk, 'Lovers' Rock', jazz fusión, house, folk americano, hip hop y acid house: ¡una mezcla ecléctica fruto de crecer en Londres con padres jamaicanos!
Sus mayores influencias musicales son James Brown, Vicki Anderson, Earth Wind and Fire, Level 42, Shalamar, Chic, Herbie Hancock, George Duke, George Benson, Marvin Gaye, Thin Lizzy, Miles Davis y Phyllis Hyman.

The Brand New Heavies, fundada por Andrew Levy y Simon Bartholomew, fue pionera de la escena del acid jazz de los años 90.
La pareja se conoció en la escuela de Ealing en 1985 antes de llegar a publicar álbumes en el top 10 del Reino Unido, Estados Unidos y Japón y, en 2020, firmaron un acuerdo de siete cifras con el sello internacional Edel Records para producir cinco nuevos álbumes, el primero de ellos publicado en primavera de 2022.
La banda se enorgullece de tocar instrumentos de verdad, no música sintetizada por ordenador ni programada. Como resultado, cuenta con numerosos admiradores dentro de la industria musical, incluido el superproductor Mark Ronson, que cita su álbum homónimo como uno de sus 10 mejores discos de todos los tiempos y atribuye a la banda haberle iniciado en el funk desde el rock a comienzos de los 90. Ronson produjo la versión de la banda de 2019 de "These Walls" de Kendrick Lamar, que ganó seguidores de culto en Radio 2.
