The Importance of Vowels in Singing
The Vowels
Where would we be in singing without vowels? These are where the beauty of the singing voice comes through.
Vowel Shape
The shape that you adopt when you sing vowels in music is very important. So we need to practice aiming for just the perfect vowel shapes for your voice.
Key Vowels in Singing
What are the key vowels used in singing, particularly in singing exercises?
- A
- E
- O
- U
Sounds like this:
Jaw Position
Now, why have I got my finger on my chin? The reason being is to make sure that my jaw doesn't move around too much when I'm doing the vowels, ensuring that it stays basically in one place.
Tongue and Lip Formation
The other areas that are meant to be used in vowel formation, which are:
- The tongue for E and I
- The lips for O and U
These should be free to just do their job.
