Level Two: Breathing Exercise
Welcome to level two!
Introduction
We're going to start with a breathing exercise again to continue our breathing development journey. This one introduces you to the concept of catch breaths.
Catch breaths are essential for singing songs, where you need to take a quick, deep inhalation followed by a long, controlled exhalation.
Exercise Breakdown
This exercise will be done in two parts:
-
Unvoiced Exercise
- This part uses breathing without the voice.
- It sounds like this:
- Quick, deep inhale.
- Steady, hissing exhale while engaging the lower abdominal muscles.
- Here's how it looks when I do it:
- I take the air in quickly and deeply.
- My stomach muscles come inwards and upwards steadily as I hiss out.
I'll do it for you one more time:
-
Voiced Exercise
- In the voiced version, we eliminate the sipping sound entirely.
- This is important because you do not use this sound when singing a song.
- It sounds like this:
(Demonstration of the voiced breathing exercise)
Continue practicing these techniques to improve your singing breath control!
