Rock School Drums: Pro Perspectives

Introduction

Hi, I'm Paul Elliott and this is Rock School Drums, the pro perspective on this course. We've put together an amazing team of top professional drummers and educators, guys who have toured the world with major artists and taught at the highest level.

What You'll Learn

We'll be giving you:

  • Top practice tips
  • Stylistic advice
  • Guidance through your Rock School grade

Meet the Instructors

Pat Lovett

Hi there, my name is Pat Lovett. I'm going to help you learn the drums on this Rock School course. I'll be guiding you through rock and blues tunes, drawing from my extensive experience playing this kind of music with various bands around the world, including:

  • Ronnie Scott's Blues Explosion
  • Tom Jones
  • Zigaboom Odalis from the Meters (a very important band from New Orleans, where the drum kit was invented)
  • Bernard Purdey (who you might know)

Both of these drummers are key figures in the development of rock and blues drumming, and I hope to pass on what I've learned from them within these lessons.

Harry Pope

Hey, I'm Harry Pope. I will be taking you through the jazz and hip hop pathways on Rock School Grade's debut to eight, and I'm really, really excited about it.

I've been chosen to do the jazz and hip hop pathways because, as a pro drummer living in London, I play both genres at a high professional level and have toured the world playing them.

  • Check out my new album by World Service Project, titled "Serve," which is out in April.

On this course with me, you will learn about the unique aspects of jazz, hip hop, and funk music, including:

  • Ghost notes
  • Dynamics
  • Mobility around the kit
  • Technique for both hands and feet

Most importantly, you'll get those little bits of information that make you sound authentic within these genres.

Rich Hawking

Hi everyone, I'm Rich Hawking. I'll be taking you through the metal songs of this Rock School syllabus.

I'm mainly known for my playing in the metal world with the band Hacktivist. Drawing upon my experiences out on the road, through tours, festivals, and big arenas, I will provide you with tips to help you digest the parts and achieve an authentic metal sound.
