Hi-Hat Fast Beats Lesson
Hey guys, how are you doing? Hope you're enjoying these lessons!
Creating Fast Beats
We're going to move on to a really cool way of creating fast beats in sequence.
Hi-Hat Sound
Do you remember the sound of the hi-hat? It went...
Now, we're going to create a really fast-paced sequence of hi-hats.
Tongue Techniques
The best way to do that is to make your tongue work from the front and the back alternately:
- Front of the Tongue: Push the front of your tongue up against the roof of your mouth for a "T" sound.
- Back of the Tongue: Create a "K" sound with the back of your tongue.
So, it goes like this: T, K.
Your "K" sound is very simple; you're just using the air within your mouth itself.
If you want to make a louder "K" sound, use your diaphragm to push air up through your lungs to make it sound like K K K.
Putting It All Together
Now, when you put the hi-hat and the "K" together, you can create a really, really fast pattern.
- Practice it slowly: Start with T K T K T K T K.
- Speed it up until you sound like...
Once you've got that down, you can incorporate it into your beat patterns. It will sound like...
This sounds really cool, and you can create a different kind of groove depending on how you use your tikka tikka tikka sounds.
Let's Try It Together
Start with your sequence:
T K T K T K T K T K T K T K T K T.
Once you've practiced that a bit and you've got the hang of it, you can start to introduce it into your beats, as I'll show you in the next course.
Happy Practicing!
