About this course

Grammy-winning guitarist Doug Smith brings a background in classical guitar and composition to some of the most striking solo guitar arrangements you'll hear. In this course he teaches six of his own pieces note for note, so you understand both how to play them and the musical thinking behind them.

You'll work through Crest of the Revolution, Order of Magnitude, Out of the Darkness, Renewal, Sunday Sonata and The Tempest, plus a bonus tune, August 23rd. Each piece is broken down in its own lesson and paired with a full performance, helping you bring out melody, bass and harmony on a single guitar.

Meet the Guru

Doug Smith

Doug Smith is a Grammy-winning acoustic fingerstyle guitarist and a former winner of the Winfield International Fingerstyle Guitar Competition, whose playing was featured in the film August Rush. His style draws on folk, classical and jazz, and he has shared the stage with players such as Tommy Emmanuel, Laurence Juber and Andy McKee. In his MusicGurus course "Contemporary Instrumental Guitar" he breaks down the techniques behind his solo arrangements.
