Max Sedgley is a British drummer, producer and DJ who played with drum and bass pioneer Roni Size and whose music has appeared on TV including Six Feet Under. Here he goes back to the building blocks most drummers rush past, the ones that quietly hold a player back later on.
You start with the backbeat behind Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean", then learn to spice it up with snare moves and ghost notes, double up the hi-hat, swing the feel, and play simple fills that land back on time. The course rounds off with the rudiments that underpin everything else: double stroke rolls and paradiddles.
It is solid grounding for beginners and a useful reset for self-taught players, and it sets you up well for Max's "Iconic Breaks" courses.
