Final Class: Finessing Your Track
Welcome back to our final class! Today, we'll cover finessing your track with an overview of mixing basics, including:
- Basic leveling
- General housekeeping
- Tagging
- Tweaking templates
- Grouping into folder tracks or buses
We'll dive into the mixing process, covering a few different topics.
Varying Regions: Track Alternatives
Let's talk about varying regions and using track alternatives. In the track mode, you will find these alternatives, which allow you to play around with different regions and parts.
For example:
- In this section, I have some regions where the hats are:
- Syncopated: Slightly off the beat
- On Beat: Straight to the beat
You'll see that they're slightly changed. Let's solo that section so you can hear what's going on:
"I was just experimenting a little bit with the swing on that. I think it may be a bit too much, but I've left it open."
Duplicating Tracks
I duplicated the track and called it "On Beat Hats." I then highlighted this one and quantized it to the beat, making it a little more in time.
The key takeaway here is:
"Experimenting with different quantizations of your hats can yield amazing results."
Track Alternatives vs. Playlists in Pro Tools
Track alternatives work similarly to playlists in Pro Tools, allowing you to:
- Chop and change between different ideas
- Experiment with slight changes in quantization
You can also use them for creative ideas or variations in your mixes.
That's it for this session, embrace experimenting with your track alternatives!
