About this course

Jazz blues and Rhythm Changes are the two forms you'll be called on to play more than any others, and pianist Peter Martin - of whom Wynton Marsalis praises a "deep kind of penetrating insight into music" - builds your command of both. You'll work a 12-bar jazz blues through tunes like Thelonious Monk's Blue Monk and Fun with F Blues, then dig into Wynton Kelly's celebrated solo on Miles Davis's Freddie Freeloader bar by bar across three lessons.

From there Peter shows you how to stay oriented inside Rhythm Changes in B flat, takes the blues somewhere unexpected with a 3/4 feel, and opens up minor blues concepts so you hear exactly how they differ from the standard form. By the end you'll be soloing over both forms with ideas that are genuinely your own.
