Percussion Masterclass featuring Minoru Miki and Anders Koppel

Spend an hour at the marimba and vibraphone with one of the most original percussionists alive. In this masterclass, Dame Evelyn Glennie coaches two twentieth-century cornerstones of the solo percussion repertoire - Minoru Miki's "Marimba Spiritual" and Anders Koppel's "Toccata for Marimba and Vibraphone" - and shows how she shapes colour, attack and musical line on instruments that are too often treated as purely rhythmic. It is a rare chance to watch how a true soloist thinks about sound, and to carry that approach back to your own playing.

Evelyn Glennie is, without question, the best-known solo percussionist in the world, giving more than 100 performances a year alongside the greatest conductors, orchestras and artists. Her collaborations range across Bjork, Bobby McFerrin, Sting, Emanuel Ax, the King's Singers, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Fred Frith. She has commissioned 150 new works for solo percussion from many of the world's most eminent composers, and her work for film and television includes a drama score nominated for a BAFTA award. After two decades on the concert platform, she now gives masterclasses and teaches privately - and that experience is on full display here.
