Welcome to Your Piano Lesson!
Hey there, everybody! How are you today? Great to see you!
Introduction
My name is Andrew James Johnson. I'm a composer and pianist from the UK. We're sitting in a great studio here in London, in the heart of the city, next to a beautiful Steinway piano. I'm going to be recording some fantastic tracks for you, helping you to understand how to play your pieces better.
A Bit About Me
I'm a professional pianist with about 25 years of experience. Here's a quick overview of my journey:
- Performances: I've played all over the world with orchestras and bands.
- Positions: I've served as a music director and worked for Disney, as well as on major cruise ships and with some of the biggest entertainment companies in the world.
- Current Focus: I'm currently concentrating on composing and working on my own album. I've released a few albums over the years.
Why You're Here
It's really great that you've chosen to learn the piano, that's absolutely fantastic news! Whether you're a beginner or an advanced Grade 8 student tackling some hardcore pieces, you're in the right place.
- Wide Range of Experience: I have played everything from:
- Concertos and sonatas by Beethoven, Bach, and Chopin
- Music from Ratmanoff
- To popular songs like Bruce Hornsby's The Way It Is, David Bowie's Life on Mars, Coldplay, and Elton John.
What You Will Learn
I look forward to digging deeper into the music and possibly exploring some details that might not be covered in your weekly lessons. If you haven't had any lessons yet, that's even better! You can take these lessons away and maximize your learning.
I'm here as your instructor to help you understand the finer points of making music, including:
-
Technical Skills:
- How to do scales
- How to play arpeggios
-
Musical Expression:
- How to express yourself
- Bringing a sense of professionalism into your playing
Remember, it's not just about the black dots on the page, music is so much more than that. As you progress, you'll begin to discover how to make your music come alive.
The Difference Between Professional and Amateur Players
The real difference between a professional player and an amateur is the ability to communicate the message of the music, to speak to the listener or even to yourself.
But that's what we're here to do! I can't wait to dive into the courses and the pieces we'll be working on together. It's going to be a lot of fun!
See you there!
Cheers!
