Beginning Folk Fiddle by Chris Haigh is a beginner-friendly guide to folk styles and technique on the violin, starting with the instrument basics and moving quickly into dance tunes you’ll actually want to play.

You’ll work through the core tune types - polkas, jigs, reels, hornpipes, and waltzes - learning how their rhythms feel, not just how they look on the page. Along the way you’ll pick up essential folk tools like playing by ear, groove-based bowing, and common ornaments (including cuts and rolls). Most tunes stay in easy keys and first position, with lots of repeats and clear 32-bar structures that help memorisation and session readiness.

Chris Haigh

Chris Haigh es violinista profesional desde hace 25 años, con experiencia en muchos géneros distintos. Ha tocado en más de 75 álbumes, trabajando con artistas como Alison Moyet, Bob Geldof, All About Eve, Michael Ball, David Soul, Oumou Sangare, The Quireboys, Riverdance, Morcheeba, James Galway y Steps.

Ha tocado swing y jazz con The Kimbara Brothers, Diz Disley, Le Jazz, The Hot Club of London y los Quecumbar Allstars, y lidera una banda de swing soviético de siete integrantes, The Kremlinaires.
