New Year gifts

A resolution that comes with a teacher.

"This year I'll learn the piano" has a short shelf life on its own. A MusicGurus gift membership gives it a method, a first lesson on New Year's Day and a hundred professional musicians to keep it honest. Your note on top; nothing to renew in February.

Why this gift

Why January is the right time to start

Resolutions fail for lack of a next step, not lack of enthusiasm. Structured methods fix that: the Rockschool piano and drums courses, the saxophone method, beginner jazz piano — each one is a sequence of lessons that tells you exactly what to practise on a wet Wednesday in January. Gift the structure and the enthusiasm has somewhere to go.

A gift also sidesteps the January problem of paying for things you might not use. It's one payment from you, no subscription for them, and their months start when they redeem it — so a code opened on 1 January and a first lesson on the 2nd is a resolution already ahead of most.

Choose 1 January as the delivery date and the email is waiting that morning, with your message — the first resolution kept before breakfast. Missed midnight? "Send it now" works any day of the year.

Where they could start

Six methods to start the year on

Structured, from-nothing courses with a syllabus you can follow week by week — the ones that turn "I'll learn" into "I'm learning".

A few of the 5,000+ lessons a gift membership opens — every course, guru and songbook is included, not just these.

Fragen

New Year questions

Does it arrive on New Year's Day or New Year's Eve?

On whichever day you pick, that morning. Set 1 January and it lands after the fireworks, not before — with a copy to you.

What if they give up in February?

Then it cost you one payment and they got a month of trying. But the methods are designed to stop that — short lessons, clear next steps, and a library big enough to switch instruments when the first choice doesn't take.

Can they start with one instrument and change?

Yes. The gift is the full library, so a piano resolution can become a drums resolution without either of you paying a penny more.

Is a year too much to give?

Twelve months is the best value per month and the length that actually gets someone to a grade. If that feels like a lot, three months covers the whole of the winter — long enough to find out whether the resolution is real.

The general questions — refunds, redeeming, what happens if they already subscribe — are answered on the main gifting page
